Happy Thursday Reader! π
In last week's newsletter I mentioned that Google's core update was still rolling out. Turns out it actually completed on April 19th, they just didn't announce it until April 26th.
π Google did share a form where you can submit feedback on ranking changes. They're accepting responses through May 31st!
I imagine it's going to take quite some time for industry experts and bloggers to analyze and understand the changes that have happened (and are still happening) with Google.
Many bloggers are upset with Google's changes and the advice SEOs have given them in the past. I get it, and I'm devastated for those who have been impacted in a negative way. I truly wish for all of you to succeed! π©΅
I want to take a moment to share a few reminders as we move forward.
1οΈβ£ Things change. The most credible, well-intentioned SEOs out there may have shared advice in the past that worked then but doesn't work now. That's business. I mean, that's life, really. It's unrealistic to expect things to stay the same forever (especially in the wonderful world of technology).
2οΈβ£ Use your brain and form your own opinions when you're given advice. Understand the reason behind the advice. Rather than just doing it because someone said to, ask yourself why you're doing it. Everyone's different and you know your business better than anyone. Does the advice make sense for you and your business? Talk it through! Don't be afraid to ask questions.
3οΈβ£ Speaking of your business, keep in mind that Google is not your business and vice versa. If you're making all blog decisions based on what Google will or won't like, it's time to stop. Think about your audience! Diversify! I subscribe to the Niche Twins newsletter and they shared something last month that I think is an important hard truth:
4οΈβ£ Lastly, enjoy the process and remember your why! Literally write down why you do this and why you love it and stick it on your monitor or somewhere you look everyday.
And now, here are some resources for you:
Cheers to not giving up π₯ you can do this!!
