What are you putting off?

Blogging Bites #89

Hey Reader!

In a few hours, I'm going live on Instagram with Allea from Duett (tune in at 1pm CT)!

Allea's an email marketing guru with her own agency and an expert in the Food Blogger Pro community & Kit!

She presented to my group coaching members earlier this year and joined my food blog mastermind for a Q&A a couple weeks ago.

When she joined us the other week, she shared a few big mistakes she sees food bloggers make with email marketing.

Today, I want to discuss one of them: waiting to start.

Many food bloggers put off email marketing for a range of reasons!

Maybe they...

...don't know what to talk about.

...don't know how to work the Email Service Provider (ESP) platform.

...don't have the time to do it.

...think they'll come across as spammy.

...don't think anyone cares about what they have to say.

Whatever the reason, it's time to crush that limiting belief.

And to be super transparent, I've been guilty of all of the above.

After putting it off for years, I just finally created a starter series and set up automations to create a better journey for my BOBCo subscribers.

It's far from perfect, though. I still have a lot of work to do!

However, I'm glad that I finally did something.

By taking action, I learned:

1️⃣ How to use automations, rules, and sequences better in Kit.

I still get nervous setting them up, but now I know how to do it and feel much more confident using them!

2️⃣ It doesn't take as long as I thought to write the emails.

I'm currently listening to an interview where an entrepreneur talks about how when you have an idea, you should write it down ASAP. He calls it "the shitty first draft". You can always change it, but just getting a draft done gives you something to work with.

Once I stopped making excuses for myself, I got 5 emails written in less than an hour (with the help of Claude)!

3️⃣ External accountability works for me.

The biggest push to get me to write those emails and set up my automation was a mastermind group deadline. This is why I'm so excited to introduce workshops into my new group coaching program next year!

What I set up isn't perfect, but at least I did something rather than spending another year thinking about it, putting it off, and feeling guilty for not doing it.

I gained knowledge and skills, and even more so, confidence & momentum.

After setting up my starter series, I created a new Holiday series. I'm sending an email almost every day this month, and I still have about 17 emails to write for it 😅

We're 3 emails in right now and it's going well!!

Now that I have emails going out to people, I have actual data to analyze rather than just working off of feelings.

Moral of the story here: take action!!

⚡️ What have you been putting off (& why)?

Hit reply & let me know, then go do it!

I'll follow up with you in a couple days 🤝

Happy blogging!
